Senior Software Engineer - Backend Infrastructure

Location: Durham, NC (Hybrid - 3 days in office)
Team: Engineering
Salary Range: $120,000 - $355,000 + equity + comprehensive benefits

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Tanium and play a key role in building and scaling our real-time cloud technologies. If you're passionate about creating high-performance backend services that have a direct impact on global enterprise security, this could be the perfect fit for you.

You'll be part of a nimble team that designs, builds, tests, and deploys best-in-class products from the ground up. We work closely with our customers from the very beginning, ensuring we're building the right things in the right way.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain high-impact, scalable, and observable backend services and APIs
• Own the full development lifecycle, from concept and deployment to iterating based on customer feedback
• Solve complex product challenges using your systems programming background
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in our hybrid work model
• Champion engineering excellence through sound judgment and commitment to quality
• Work with modern infrastructure technologies to deploy and scale our services

What We're Looking For

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience designing and building high-performance, scalable backend services and APIs
• Proficiency in Golang (preferred), Node.js, Python, Ruby, Rust, or Java
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform
• Familiarity with modern software engineering development and automation tools
• Strong advocate for automated testing and code quality

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues under pressure
• Versatile learner who can quickly adapt to new tools and frameworks

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (CS degree preferred)
• Must be U.S. citizen, national, or resident per government requirements
• Ability to work from our Durham, NC office 3 days per week
