Description

Company: ARound (a Stagwell company)
Location: Remote (UTC -8 to -4 timezones only)
Hours: 20-40 hours/week (flexible)
Type: Contract or Contract-to-Hire

ARound, is looking for a Backend Engineer to help us build web-based augmented reality experiences for sports fans. If you get excited about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in mobile browsers and love the idea of creating interactive AR games for live sports, let's talk.

What We're Building

ARound is creating shared augmented reality experiences that bring fans together during live sporting events. Imagine thousands of people in a stadium interacting with the same AR content through their mobile browsers – that's what we're working on.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building backend systems to support real-time, web-based AR experiences and games
  • Developing and integrating APIs that power our interactive features
  • Managing cloud infrastructure and services on Digital Ocean
  • Working with video streaming technologies like RTMP and WebRTC
  • Collaborating on a stack that includes Node.js, Rust, and PostgreSQL

Our Tech Stack

  • Core: Node.js, Rust, PostgreSQL, Digital Ocean
  • Video: RTMP, WebRTC
  • Nice-to-haves: TypeScript, Vue.js, Babylon.js

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Has solid backend development experience
  • Enjoys working on real-time, interactive systems
  • Is comfortable managing cloud infrastructure
  • Gets excited about technical challenges in the AR/VR space
  • Has some experience or interest in video streaming technologies
  • Enjoys sports (though you don't need to be a superfan!)

The Practical Details

  • This is a remote position, but we need you in North/South American timezones (UTC -8 through -4)
  • Hours are flexible – we're thinking 20-40 hours per week depending on your availability
  • We're open to either contract work or contract-to-hire arrangements
  • I'm the direct hiring manager – no recruiters or agencies involved

Why This Is Pretty Cool

You'd be joining a small, focused team working on cutting-edge web AR technology. The sports AR space is still emerging, and you'd have a real chance to shape the fan experiences of tomorrow.

If you're the kind of engineer who gets excited about real-time systems, loves solving novel technical challenges, and wants to work on something people will actually use and enjoy, I'd love to hear from you.
