This is a unique opportunity to apply deep language model expertise within a high-performance Rust codebase, directly impacting how developers interact with AI-assisted coding.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and drive Zed's AI strategy through model evaluation, fine-tuning, and data collection
• Lead the evaluation, selection, and fine-tuning of language models for coding-specific tasks
• Design and implement robust data collection strategies to continuously improve model performance
• Develop advanced prompting strategies and comprehensive evaluation frameworks
• Create and maintain testing methodologies for AI features in a production environment
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into our Rust-based editor
• Share AI expertise across the organization through mentorship and knowledge sharing
• Stay current with AI research trends and identify new opportunities for application
• Participate actively in pair programming sessions and code reviews

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience working with large language models in production environments
• Deep expertise in model evaluation, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning techniques
• Strong background in developing data collection and evaluation strategies for AI systems
• Proven experience implementing and deploying production-grade AI solutions
• Experience with evaluation methodologies and testing frameworks for AI systems
• Strong communication skills with ability to mentor team members on AI concepts
• Proficiency in Rust programming
• Genuine passion for developer tools and enhancing the coding experience through AI
• Enthusiasm for collaborative work practices including pair programming

Preferred Qualifications

• Specific experience with code analysis or generation using AI
• Background in developer tools or IDE development
• Previous work in high-performance systems requiring low-latency AI integration
• Contributions to open-source AI projects or developer tools
