The Role:

We are seeking a skilled Rust Engineer to join our team and help ensure PostgreSQL runs seamlessly on the Neon cloud platform. You will contribute to critical parts of the system, including:
- The interface between PostgreSQL and our Rust-based storage system.
- The integration with the Neon control plane and monitoring tools.
- The open-source PostgreSQL project and its broader ecosystem.

You will also:

• Design and implement new Postgres features.
• Write high-performance, low-level systems code in Rust.
• Deploy changes to a large-scale farm of 500k+ Postgres instances.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For:

• 4+ years of production experience in software engineering, with a focus on systems programming.
• Experience with Rust or a strong interest in learning and working with Rust.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL internals, extensions, or feature development.
• Experience maintaining and scaling large production systems.
• A passion for systems software, performance engineering, and distributed systems.
• A strong sense of ownership, accountability, and pride in your work.
• Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience contributing to open-source projects.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Go (our control plane is written in Go).
