Description
Senior Backend Engineer - Platform & Scalability
About Teton
At Teton, we are on a mission to redefine global healthcare with cutting-edge AI technology. In the face of a critical nursing shortage, our solutions provide essential support to overburdened health systems, directly impacting patient and resident care. With a rapidly expanding footprint across four countries, we are building the future of responsive and intelligent healthcare.
Our differentiation lies in our unwavering commitment to product excellence and user-centric design. We move with purpose to deploy technology that delivers tangible, real-world value. To maintain our velocity and foster the collaborative synergy necessary for breakthrough innovation, this role is based in our Copenhagen office.
The Role
Our platform comprises a global network of thousands of AI-powered devices, generating a continuous stream of vital patient data. Each new device we deploy increases the load on our central systems, and your expertise will be critical in ensuring our infrastructure scales seamlessly to meet this growing demand.
You will join the core platform team, responsible for building the high-performance bridge between our edge AI devices and the databases and APIs that power our applications. This is a foundational role where your work will directly enable our product and AI teams to innovate faster and more reliably.
Who You Are
You are a seasoned engineer who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You are driven by the challenge of building robust, scalable systems and are motivated by the opportunity to see your work make a significant impact in a pioneering field.
Technical Requirements
Our current stack leverages the following, and we seek proven experience in similar technologies:
- Scalable Data Pipelines: Design and implementation of high-throughput ingestion pipelines using tools like RabbitMQ or MQTT.
- Database Optimization & Scaling: Expert-level skills in optimizing and scaling Postgres databases, including query plan analysis and schema restructuring. Experience with RDS or ClickHouse is highly relevant.
- Type-Safe Development: Proficiency in building systems with type-safe languages such as Rust or TypeScript.
- API & SDK Design: A track record of building pristine, well-documented APIs or SDKs (e.g., using ts-rest, OpenAPI) that empower other developers.
- Cloud & IaC: Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Pulumi) and cloud providers (AWS).
- SRE/DevOps Principles: Practical experience in a team applying SRE or DevOps practices, with expertise in monitoring and observability using tools like Grafana and VictoriaMetrics.
Key Mindset & Competencies
- You possess excellent communication skills and can effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including sales, compliance, and other engineering teams.
- You are pragmatic and understand that personal preferences are secondary to building the best solution through collaborative discourse.
- You have a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new languages, libraries, and technologies.
- You appreciate the complexities of distributed systems, understanding how transaction boundaries and caching strategies influence system design.
- You are performance-oriented and believe that optimization must be driven by data and measurement, not guesswork.
- You are a discerning engineer who can evaluate new technologies on their merits, recognizing when a tool is substance versus marketing.
What We Offer
- Meaningful Ownership: Significant stock options, because we believe the people building the company should own a part of it.
- Pioneering Work: The opportunity to work with a state-of-the-art technology stack on challenges that have a genuine impact on the future of healthcare.
- A Culture of Do'ers: A meritocratic environment free from office politics. We minimize meetings and maximize building.
- Professional Growth: A high-velocity, high-responsibility role that will challenge you and accelerate your career.
